Recently, two special visitors stopped by Yellow Banks Recovery Center in Owensboro: Dr. George Gray, Assistant Professor of Social Work at Brescia University, and Katerina Stepankova, a Social Work student from Caritas College in Olomouc, Czech Republic. While there, the pair, along with staff, had the opportunity to learn about cultural differences surrounding substance use treatment practices.
Katerina is part of a visiting student program from Owensboro’s sister city of Olomouc. She shared her valuable experience working in street outreach for houseless individuals in the Czech Republic. While at home Katerina works with individuals to find housing and helps them access treatment for substance use and mental health disorders.
During their visit, the group discussed diverse treatment methods in the United States and the Czech Republic, shedding light on the global challenges of addiction treatment and recovery. Meanwhile, staff educated the pair on Addiction Recovery Care’s innovative Crisis to Career model utilized at Yellow Banks Recovery Center and highlighted how former ARC clients have transformed into successful employees and interns.
